On a trip to Portugal, my friends and I stopped at a small family winery to enjoy a glass of Vinho Verde. As we waited, I noticed the row of empty wine glasses lined up on the table and snapped a quick photo before they were filled.

The original scene included six glasses, but as I began painting, I realized that fewer glasses created a stronger composition. Sometimes a painting becomes less about reproducing a photograph exactly and more about preserving the feeling of a moment.
