Water has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I began swimming when I was five years old and spent the next five decades in the water—as a competitive swimmer, swim instructor, coach, and eventually as a firefighter, where water became something entirely different. It was no longer simply a place of peace, but a force capable of protecting lives and changing outcomes.

Those experiences shaped the way I see water today.

Rather than painting the splash itself, I wanted to capture the instant just before the drop returns to the surface. The ripples continue to move outward while the droplet hangs suspended above them, creating a brief moment where time seems to stand still.

Like water itself, life can be calm or powerful, familiar or unpredictable. Sometimes the smallest ripple reminds us that even the simplest moments can reach farther than we ever imagine.
