This is one of the strangest paintings I have ever created. I painted it during the day, surrounded by natural light that made the colors feel vibrant, luminous, and full of energy. Yet when I viewed the painting that evening under the warm glow of incandescent light, an entirely different work seemed to emerge. The brilliance had softened into muted, earthy tones, and what once felt bright and lively became atmospheric, subdued, and unexpectedly moody. It was not at all what I had anticipated.
In the end, I came to see that its success lies in its unpredictability. The painting does not remain static; it responds, transforms, and redefines itself. What first seemed like inconsistency became one of its greatest strengths - a work alive enough to shift with the light and reveal something different each time it is encountered.
I feel “Temptation” is a fitting title for this painting because the image itself feels pulled in multiple directions at once. The sweeping brushstrokes create a sense of movement that is hard to resist visually. Your eye keeps getting drawn deeper into the painting, almost the same way temptation works emotionally - one impulse leading to another before you even realize it.
What I find especially interesting is that there doesn’t appear to be a clear focal point. Instead, the eye wanders constantly, searching for resolution but never fully settling. That endless searching connects beautifully to the title. Temptation often lives in uncertainty - wanting something, chasing something, being drawn toward something undefined. It feels less like an image of temptation and more like the experience of being inside it.
The photos below show how differently the same painting can look depending on lighting.
